After a winter shutdown, there is nothing quite like the anticipation of getting back in your spa for the first time. But before that happens, your hot tub needs to be properly recommissioned.
Simply reconnecting the plumbing, filling it with water and switching it on is not sufficient — and in some cases, it can cause damage or result in poor water quality that takes weeks to correct.

Why Does the First Fill Chemistry Matter So Much?
Getting the water chemistry right at the very first fill is far easier — and far less expensive in chemicals — than trying to correct it after problems have developed. Starting with correctly balanced water prevents scale build-up on the heater element, protects the shell and cover surfaces from chemical damage, and means your water is ready to bathe in sooner.
What If We Find Frost Damage?
Occasionally, when reconnecting plumbing after winter, it becomes apparent that a component has suffered frost damage — a cracked pump housing, a split union or a failed seal. If this happens, we will stop, clearly explain what we have found and provide a written quote for the repair before proceeding. You are under no obligation to proceed with any additional work.
What Does Our Reopening Service Include?
- Reconnection of all pump and heater unions that were opened and left loose during winterisation
- Inspection of all reconnected fittings for correct seating and tightness
- Fresh water refill
- Full plumbing check whilst filling — identifying any signs of frost damage, leaks or failed seals that may have occurred over winter
- Complete operational function check — jets, circulation pump, main pump(s), heater, ozone system (where fitted), LED lights and control panel
- Initial water chemistry setup — pH, total alkalinity, sanitiser and calcium hardness all balanced correctly from the outset, preventing the cloudy water and foaming that often results from an incorrect first fill
