Why Is the Chemical Flush So Important?
The biofilm flush is the part of a hot tub service most often skipped by owners doing their own maintenance, and it is arguably the most important step of all. Biofilm — an invisible layer of dead skin cells, hair and body products — builds up inside the pipework of every hot tub. Standard water sanitisers like chlorine and bromine do not penetrate biofilm effectively, so bacteria can continue to multiply inside the plumbing even when the water looks clear and tests well.
Our professional-grade Chlorine Dioxide flush completely destroys this biofilm, eliminating the bacterial food source and leaving the plumbing truly sanitised. This step alone justifies a professional service over a DIY water change.
How Often Should a Hot Tub Be Serviced?
We recommend a full service at least once a year for every hot tub. For spas used frequently by multiple bathers, young children, or vulnerable individuals, we suggest two full services per year — once in spring and once in autumn.
Regular servicing significantly reduces the likelihood of costly mechanical breakdowns, extends the life of key components such as pumps and heaters, and provides the peace of mind that your water is genuinely safe.
What Is Included in Our Full Hot Tub Service?
Our full service is the most thorough option we offer, and the one we recommend for all hot tubs at least once a year:
- Powerful chemical flush using a biofilm-removing gel combined with sanitising Chlorine Dioxide tablets — this destroys viral and bacterial growth within the pipework and eliminates biofilm, the organic matter on which bacteria feed
- Full inspection of the plumbing network — checking for leaks, wear and signs of impending failure
- Pump inspection — checking pump seals, performance and connections
- Heater inspection — element condition, flow switch and high-limit sensor checks
- Ozone system check (where fitted)
- Inspection of all electrical connections for safety and integrity
- Complete drain down of the spa
- High-pressure jet wash of the spa shell, seats and footwell
- Cover clean and inspection
- Filter removal, deep clean and inspection
- Fresh water refill
- Full recommissioning and function check — jets, pumps, lights, heater
- Precise water chemistry balance — pH, total alkalinity, sanitiser and calcium hardness all set correctly
